Dear ___________
I represent the ___________ (Educational Institution) and I wish to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Current circumstances in the nation of Afghanistan have put an entire class of people in danger only because they assisted our military forces and diplomatic efforts in the fight against terrorism.
These citizens worked in many capacities among them, interpreters, teachers, and liaison personnel. When we withdrew military forces from Afghanistan, we left behind many people who risked everything to assist us. These people, as well as their families, are now in harm’s way. Many are in hiding attempting to evade Taliban forces. Many face a certain death.
We have a moral obligation to help the people who have risked everything to help us in our time of need. The United States of America has a mighty standing in the world. We therefore need to employ our diplomatic might to do the following:
- We want the US government to use its influence in the world to pressure the countries bordering Afghanistan to admit and protect our refugees.
- We want our embassies in those countries to give the highest priority to processing Special Immigrant Visas (SIV) as well as P1 and P2 refugees from Afghanistan.
- We want to assure those bordering countries that we will process SIVs, P1, and P2 packets as quickly as possible so the refugee camps are a temporary measure and will not become a permanent burden.
- This must be done in a timely manner since many of these people are in immediate danger.
We can help undo this humanitarian crisis. To reiterate, we have a moral obligation to help those who have risked everything for us in our time of need. This is now their time of need. Let us address this urgent matter.
Please assure me that you will do everything within your power to engage in this humanitarian effort to help Afghanistan refugees.
Most sincerely,
